I got a package from Amazon today! In it was my new Lens Baby Control Freak tilt shift lens (which Lens Baby has discontinued, Amazon had only one left in stock), Lens Baby macro converters and a 4TB Seagate external hard-drive. My macbook pro is from 2009 and has entirely run out of memory on multiple occasions. I’ve had a 500GB mypassport for about a year and it’s entirely filled now too, so it was time to upgrade. 4TB better last me awhile. And while memory is definitely important, lenses are more exciting. I’ve been experimenting with tilt shift esque techniques in photoshop for awhile and researching Lens Baby’s product line. I got my heart set on the Control Freak about a month ago because well, I wanted a ton of control of my tilt shifting. I quickly realized that this lens couldn’t be bought through the Lens Baby store and sent an e-mail asking why. Turns out it just wasn’t popular because it has a higher “learning curve.” Well, I’m here to tell you that it only took me about 15 minutes to figure it out and get mildly used to it (keep in mind I am using a tripod and a remote control though for every image) and it being discontinued ended up saving me about $50. So far I have been able to get just the look I’ve been hoping for, for this new series I’m working on. I still need to play around to get a bit more used to it, but I’m not worried. I haven’t tried out the macro converters yet though since I’m using slightly larger props than normal at the moment (Playmobil to be specific).
