Cover Makeover – 1984

[In response to PhotoRehab Cover Makeover 9]

Ah 1984. I’ve read this one a couple of times. While not my favorite novel, I do love anything Utopian/Dystopian society related, so this one still grabs my attention.

“The year 1984 has come and gone, but George Orwell’s prophetic, nightmarish vision in 1949 of the world we were becoming is timelier than ever. 1984 is still the great modern classic of “negative utopia” -a startlingly original and haunting novel that creates an imaginary world that is completely convincing, from the first sentence to the last four words. No one can deny the novel’s hold on the imaginations of whole generations, or the power of its admonitions -a power that seems to grow, not lessen, with the passage of time.” – Goodreads

I used this image and overlayed the repeated phrase “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.” Then I also added the title and author.

I struggled with this cover. I wanted something futuristic, yet simplistic, and I wanted to get this submitted by the deadline. Hopefully in the near future my ideas will come together a tad better and I can revisit this title.

I really love these covers:

  1. This is great Jennifer. You’ve definitely brought a futuristic design to your cover. I would never have thought of doing something like that. Love it!
