Recurring Nightmare

recurring-nightmare

Just breath.

It will all be over soon.

It’s just a dream.

No.

Not tonight.

Not now.

I just need sleep.

One good night.

Get out of my brain!

I am not yours to have.

And yet, I am.

I created you.

But I wish I hadn’t given you so much power.

    1. Thank you so much! The idea actually spawned from the pig head. http://amzn.to/1N3l28J It’s the lid of a tube of animal toys. I took a picture of it while standing in Toys R Us because I thought it looked so creepy. I liked playing it against the happy piggy bank that sits on her side table. Sheep are a great idea, to me they’re not as scary, but maybe I should try a counting sheep sort of falling to sleep image/ gif shot in a similar manner.

  1. Hi. I know this takes away from the seriousness of the theme but those pigs make me smile. The image in your header would make a great cover for a children’s picture book.

    1. I was a little concerned about sharing it. I liked the result but I showed it to a couple people last night who didn’t get it at all. It’s good to hear about people relating and understanding. That said I wouldn’t wish bad dreams on anyone of course. Thank you for your comment.

                1. That is very true. While I don’t like the images so much anymore, but senior photo project in college was all images based on my nightmares. I’ve come a long way creatively since then, but not so much nightmare wise. I hope they don’t haunt you much longer – but I know that’s a bit of an empty statement.

    1. I don’t have a very defined artist statement for it, however overall it represents anxiety. Focusing on one object, not being able to get it out of your head. The room spins, night after night this image makes it’s way into her dreams, over and over. If you look closely, as the days progress her room gets messier. She’s being overtaken. Sinking deeper and deeper. The spinning and flashing images in the gif are to give the viewer a sense of what she’s feeling, a chaos. Thank you and thank you for asking.
