My First Photography Foray

I went on a family vacation to the Smoky Mountains when I was 14 years old. We stayed in a KOA Cabin and took daily hikes. I brought with me my mom’s compact film camera with rolls of color and black and white film.

I loved what I saw when we got the images developed and promptly framed them as you see above. The following year I took a photo class in my high school and remember coming home and comparing these photos to the rule of thirds, pleasantly happy that I found a good chunk that followed the rule.

I don’t have these hanging, but I do still have them. This experience and these images are what inspired my love for photography. They’re the first images I ever remember taking and so I’ll always cherish them.
