A Timeline of the History of Miniatures: From Ritual and Religious Object to Plaything and Collectible

Miniatures have taken the world by storm. And why wouldn’t they? The internet allows the spread of their tiny glory to miniacs all over the world. But they have a hugely amazing history, dating back to ancient Egypt, if not further, and I think that history needs to be explored. 3rd Millennium BC (Old Kingdom... Continue Reading →

Miniatures and Control

Over the course of multiple years, I wondered why we all love miniatures so much, why I was so enthralled by their magic. And throughout this time I read Susan Stewart's 'On Longing' and a reactionary blog series to that book. And I fell somewhere in between. The movie started at 1:29 and it was still just me.

To top it all off, you could purchase an art collection for your mini home, complete with little prints from Laurie Simmons herself and her art friends, such as, Cindy Sherman, and Barbara Kruger.

I've seen a lot lately, listing artists from the 2010s as being founders of the field, and while they're great artists, I think we all need to look back... Continue Reading →

This one is for all you history and miniature buffs. The images in the timeline below are not mine, many are under creative commons license from... Continue Reading →
