The darkness surrounds me
Itching closer and closer
until it consumes me
I struggle, yet drown
in its overwhelming power
Unconscious, I float to the top
Drifting upward
through the gradient of greys
toward the light
I awake
struggling to open my eyes
Not all is lost
above the sea
Here I can breathe
I gasp
