Tourmaline .’s 2020 Countdown to Christmas

I’m hosting my first ever Christmas challenge this year!

Each day in December, up til Christmas, there will be a new prompt. Share a picture, write a poem, write a blog about your day, anything along the lines of the theme will do!

Post as often or as little as you’d like. Share your links with me on my daily post and I’ll keep a running list of all participants both here and on the daily posts, whether by blog, social media, however you contribute.

If you’re posting on instagram tag #tschristmascountdown, and tag me @tourmalinenow so that myself and others can find your post.

Hope you have a jolly good time!

The Clearing

Iridescent Christmas village snow, Victorian style porcelain dollhouse dolls and decorative mantle deer and glitter trees. With these I aimed to make some dreamy forest scapes and I think I accomplished just that.

While I typically disassemble my temporary dioramas after I’ve achieved the desired photos, this one I’ve left in tact as I have another image or two planned with a new doll that should be shipping to me shortly. Stay tuned.

Does it feel like Winter for you all yet? It’s just now starting to feel like Fall here in Florida, but I suppose that’s how our Winter feels as well.

Christmas Tree

Joining in on Silver Threading’s Christmas Trees Around the World Challenge.

This is my 2nd Christmas with Eric (my boyfriend) and Wolfgang (my cat), but the first year we’ve set up a Christmas tree together. We purchased ornaments last year in preparation, but never got a chance to use them, so this year we got a tree and topper to go with them. We didn’t like any of the tree skirts we found in store, so we ended up cutting down the middle of a skirt I wore as a pirate for Halloween a couple years ago and re-purposing it into a tree skirt.

In this next picture, Wolfgang may seem to be relaxing, but he was definitely plotting – just look at those pupils. A few minutes earlier he’d been batting at the lower ornaments. He had even gotten up on his perch (you can see the corner of it in the left of the image above) and batted at the ornaments he could reach from there. It will be interesting to see what he’s gotten into while we sleep tonight.

Eric also outfitted our balcony with lights. It looks so magical. But no other Christmas decorations just yet. We did mini stockings last year, but we really don’t have a place to hang anything that might get a bit heavy. Besides, we’re not very good at making each other wait ’til Christmas morning to open gifts.

Now, for good measure, some miniature Christmas scenes.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: My Favorite Things, Verse Three

For this week’s challenge, Cee gives us these lyrics:

“Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes, Silver white winters that melt into springs, These are a few of my favorite things.”

White, snowflakes, winters? While not much of a representation of the verse above, this prompt made me think back to a photo I planned and attempted quite awhile ago. I was never happy with the outcome and planned to re-shoot at a later date. Well here’s the later date, and I think I like the outcome this time.

The snowman is made out of air dry clay and is about an inch tall. The snow is shaving cream.

Check out the challenge here.
