Living the Life I Chose: Reflections from an Interview

Sometimes we find ourselves at a crossroads. For me, one such moment came a short time before my interview with the SBN Network. It was a day that profoundly changed the trajectory of my life.

The Day That Changed Everything

I had been living in an emotional, and sometimes terrifying household. I had chosen to stay and find a way to exist within it. Finally, I had come to a much better decision, however – to not let anything hold me back from what I wanted to do in life. I packed up my belongings, interviewed for the SBN Network, attended a hot air balloon festival with my friend, and moved out of my broken marital home—all in the same day, the day before my 2 year wedding anniversary.

Each step of that day symbolized reclaiming my agency. Moving back in with my parents, while not the path I originally envisioned, became a stepping stone toward rebuilding a life I wanted.

The Interview: A Moment of Reflection

When I sat down for the interview, I carried all of that day’s momentum with me. I knew my plan for the remainder of the day after. Talking about my journey into toy photography, my creative process, and the community I’ve found in this medium; it wasn’t just an interview about art—it was an affirmation of the life I’ve chosen to live.

The hosts’ questions about my creative journey reminded me of the resilience that art requires. Starting as a high school student illustrating scenes with toys for an English project, I never imagined toy photography would become such a significant part of my life. Yet here I was, sharing my story, fully embracing the space I’ve carved out in this vibrant artistic community.

Why This Moment Matters

The interview, for all its focus on art and creativity, also served as a turning point in my life. It marked the beginning of a chapter defined by intention and authenticity. I was no longer waiting for the “right time” to live the life I wanted. Instead, I was taking action, making choices, and allowing myself to dream of the future again.

What I Learned

Reflecting on this experience, I’ve realized the power of embracing the unexpected. Life is rarely linear, and sometimes the most challenging circumstances lead to the greatest transformations. Art has been my constant no matter what challenges I’m confronted with.

Moving Forward

As I continue this journey, I hold onto the lessons of that day: to never let circumstances hold me back, to seek beauty in the unexpected, and to live with intention. Whether through art or life itself, we all have the ability to create something meaningful.

May this reflection serve as a reminder that your life is yours and yours alone to live. Seize each day.
