A Dreamy October

Welcome to October 1st and day one of #TsDailyOctShare! 🍂

I am so incredibly excited to kick off this month of creativity, and I hope you are planning on joining the community in posting daily throughout October. Whether you are aiming for a perfect 31-day streak or just dipping your toes in, I would absolutely love to hear what you have in store.

As for my own creative journey, I have been deeply immersed in a fascinating mix of research, self-experimentation, photo preparation, and conceptual planning. Lately, my focus has been entirely captured by the concept of our unconscious selves. Because of that obsession, the blog is going in some really wild, nostalgic, and deeply creative directions this month. Here is a sneak peek at what you can expect:

  • Retro Self-Help & Mind Exploration: We will be diving into vintage home study programs from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. I’m looking at the strange, beautiful, and sometimes bizarre courses that promised to help you unlock your inner self, tap into your subconscious mind, and radically improve your life.
  • The Science and Art of Surrealism: I’ll be breaking down how the historical Surrealists weaponized their dreams, active imagination, and automatic processes to pull raw inspiration directly from their psyches.
  • A Personal Experiment: I won’t just be reviewing these topics from a distance. I’m actually hoping to delve directly into my own dreams and surrealist artwork using these exact vintage programs and historical processes, testing them out to further interpret my own subconscious mind.

While all of that deep mental exploration is happening in the studio, I’m also getting ready to connect with the physical world. In just a few days, I’ll be heading out to the gorgeous Ozarks for an autumn rock climbing trip! I am going with a truly fantastic group of people. I can’t wait to share more details about the trip itself and the incredible organization putting it all together over the next couple of weeks. My camera will definitely be glued to my hand, I’m hoping to capture some breathtaking fall foliage shots, and yes, I’ll definitely be packing along some toys for some unique toy photography in the wilderness.

Speaking of seasonal fun and toy photography, I’m also planning to attend at least one local fall festival this month—if not more! I am absolutely thrilled to bring a few specific pieces along for the ride. I’ll be packing my trusty Sam (Trick ‘r Treat) figure, along with my brand-new (to me, but delightfully vintage) Nightmare Before Christmas Pumpkin King figure. Fall festivals provide the perfect, atmospheric backdrop, and I can’t wait to see what kind of creative shots I can conjure up with them among the pumpkins and autumn colors.

On top of all that, I’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes on a couple of entirely different photography series. While I’m not quite sure the final, polished images will be ready to unveil this month, I won’t keep you completely in the dark. I’ll be sharing plenty of behind-the-scenes snippets, work-in-progress videos, and a look into my conceptual thought processes as these projects come to life.

It’s going to be a packed, inspiring, and slightly surreal month. Thank you for being here for day one. Now, tell me what you’re working on this October! 👇
